Art BridgesInternship Program

Interns receive hands-on experience with guidance and mentorship from Art Bridges staff across departments, from Collection Loans and Traveling Exhibitions to Marketing & Communications and Learning & Engagement.

Through an orientation, speaker series, and discussion groups, interns will expand upon their academic training and apply their knowledge and skills to Art Bridges projects. Interns work approximately 10-15 hours per week during the academic year and 35 hours per week during the summer.

Art Bridges is committed to a diverse workforce and to providing training for the next generation of museum professionals. Students from historically underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.

1. What should I expect from an Art Bridges internship?
   The experiences of each intern vary based on their department and mentor, but all Art Bridges interns have opportunities to engage in professional development, networking opportunities, and a recurring Speaker Series featuring notable arts professionals across the field. Past speakers include Brooke Lampley, Vice Chairman of Fine Arts, Sotheby’s; Jason Herrick, Chief Philanthropy Office, The Metropolitan Museum of Art; Nisa Mackie, Director of Learning & Audience Engagement, MoMA; Allison Glenn, Senior Curator, Public Art Fund. Interns also develop and deliver presentations about their experiences and accomplishments at the conclusion of their internship.

2. What will I gain from being an Art Bridges intern?
   Art Bridges interns receive firsthand experience in the day-to-day operations of their department and gain valuable insight into the role of nonprofit organizations, foundations, and museums, and how to navigate professional settings. Interns are paid hourly (please refer to job description) and are eligible for course credit, and summer interns receive travel and housing support.
   
3. Do I need to have an arts or humanities degree?
   When applying for an Art Bridges internship, you will need to submit your resume and a cover letter (a writing sample is requested for specific positions). Applicants must be currently enrolled in a university degree program at the undergraduate or graduate level, or recent graduates (less than one year), with an interest in entering the workforce as an emerging arts professional. We do not require prior internship experience or an art-related major. We encourage applicants with any range of experience to apply!
